After listening to Paul Fletcher on the Bob
Brolly show on Monday things look like they have a potential to take
a turn for the worst. If no deal can be worked out it is our opinion
that the Club could find itself in dire straits.
As stated in a
previous article on The West Terrace, Coventry City Council have
once again reiterated that they are not holding up any proposed
takeover and have not received any offer, formal or informal, from
Manhattan Sports Capital Partners despite inviting them to make an
offer after supplying financial information to them.
The council
believe it's the growing debts of the Club that is the sticking
point. Losing money week on week, how long before the debts are
called in? A debt of some £34 million. With Paul Fletcher,
suggesting that the council want too much money for their half share
of the Arena what damage will this war of words do to any potential
bid?
John McGuigan,
director of city development for the city council and a director of
ACL is quoted as saying,
"Neither ACL nor the City Council has received any offer for the
Ricoh Arena from any party. The City Council and ACL are not
standing in the way of any proposed takeover of Coventry City. The
city council recognises the importance of a top rate football club
to the City of Coventry and to the many people in the City who
support the Sky Blues."
McGuigan also
claimed the ACL have gone one step further and pressed Manhattan to
make an offer. The West Terrace believes that the transfer of the
buy back option to Geoffrey Robinson may take us one giant step
nearer the the abyss. In the past, receivership was something to be
avoided at all costs, simply because Robinson would have lost pretty
much all his investment. Now, any personal losses could be pretty
much off set against the value of the buy back option. It's clear
now that performances on the pitch could have a greater bearing on
the fortunes or misfortunes of the Club like never before.
The West Terrace
urges all Coventry fans to get up the Ricoh and support the team
like it's very being depends on it because that may very well be the
case. The buy out may be out of our hands but we can play our part
in the success of the team.
Furthermore, The West Terrace urges fans
to give urgent consideration to joining The Sky Blue Trust. If, God
forbid, the worst comes to the worst we well need a strong Trust in
place that may have a say in the Clubs future. We will need a
unified, strong voice. Whatever your views are of The Sky Blue
Trust, join it and make it YOUR Trust. More details can be found at.
