Robbie Simpson for £40,000 |

Cambridge chairman Lee Power has claimed the FA tribunal's figure of
£40,000, rising to £130,000, depending on appearances, as unfair,
saving his biggest criticism of the panels decision for the 5% sell
on clause claiming 15% to 20% being the norm.
Simpson, a Norwich City school boy before being signed by Cambridge
City in 2002, made 28 appearances for United scoring 17 goals after
joining them in June 2006. It’s pleasing to see an F.A panel see
sense after some of the decisions lately. Obviously Power won’t
agree but £40,000 rising to £130,000 with add ons isn’t a bad days
work considering Simpson is making a big step up to Championship
level and he’s only been with the U’s for a year.
I would have more sympathy with Power and I’m sure he would have a
stronger case if he had come through the Cambridge ranks. It may not
be the end of the saga as Power has hinted he might look at ways to
appeal the decision.
